Secrets Of the Expert Business Traveler
Secrets Of the Expert Business Traveler Youâve seen her â" the Expert Traveler. Whether starting or finishing her trip, she looks fresh and relaxed. As you wrestle your large suitcase off the baggage belt, you wonder how she manages with just a small roll-aboard and a handbag. Wonder no more! Here are her secrets for easier travel. Pre-travel Finish packing the day before you go; avoid last minute rushing. Tickets, boarding passes, passport, power cords, tech: Check! Choose reliable, wrinkle-free clothes in the same color family that mix and match. You need less than you think. For a 4-day business trip, 2 suits with 3 tops and a couple of scarves make a fresh look every day without checked luggage. Have 2 pre-packed toiletry kits: shampoo, one with the minimum in a small plastic baggie (for cabin transport) and one with the basics plus extras (for checked bags). Pack efficiently: roll soft items, put small ones in shoes, use the little spaces between. Watch a video on packing well, like this one from Heathrow Airport, for more tips Invest in good luggage. Knowing how to buy luggage that works for you and the kinds of traveling you do will help make all parts of the trip more pleasant. Going to the same place often? Try to take the same flights and stay in the same hotel every time. Routine helps you relax. You need fewer clothes than you think; most people dont use everything they pack On the Road Wear comfortable travel clothes: low-heeled shoes without laces, comfortable tops and pants. Travel in business casual clothes in case your checked bag is lost or you meet a colleague on the plane. Bring a scarf or shawl in case its cold. Keep as regular a schedule as possible: mimic your home pre-sleep and waking routine. Have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms? Bring a pillowcase from home, or scented oil to help you relax. Eat light and healthy: a big dinner is tempting, especially when the company is paying. But youâll feel terrible if that heavy meal keeps you awake all night. Eat a colorful salad for veggies, and skip dessert. Find light snacks like nuts instead of candy and cake. Maintain your fitness program: it relieves stress, boosts your energy and clears your head. If youâre a runner, ask the hotel for a safe and interesting route; youâll have the added bonus of seeing more of the city than just the hotel and office. Drink wisely: drink more water than wine, and leave the bar early. Alcohol and late hours plus dry airplane and hotel air make you pale and fatigued. Use your âout of officeâ message: Warn people that you are on the road and your answers might be delayed. They will understand, and you wonâ t spend all night answering email instead of resting up for tomorrowâs meetings. Stick with smart travel habits and youll feel better, work better, and have a better time Post-travel Recovery time: No need to jump right onto the hamster wheel again! Reserve one night for good nightâs sleep in your own bed before going to the office. Unpacking is easy: all your clothes go into the laundry and toiletry bags stay in your suitcase, so they are ready to go again. Refill anything thatâs running low and make sure the plastic bag still seals. Rehydrate: one more day with more water than wine will help you recover from the dry airplane air and bounce back from the trip. Stress-free travel gives you more energy on the trip. These tips will have you rolling on and off the plane with all the grace and style of the experienced traveler! Image credits: Main Packing Home

The Writing Skills Section of Your Resume
The Writing Skills Section of Your ResumeThe writing skills section of your resume should be designed to highlight your previous work experience. The information included in this section should be highly relevant to the job you are applying for. It should highlight your professional accomplishments, areas of skill and trade which you have demonstrated through your past experiences. The information about writing skills must be specific to the job you are applying for. If the position is one that involves input from the public or involves creative writing and presentation, the writing skills section must be written in the present tense. In other words, the most appropriate resume formatting will allow for past references to be referenced in the present tense. This will help to communicate the fact that you have the necessary writing skills to perform the task at hand.If the writing skills required for the job at hand are related to writing or design, then past projects and assignments a re acceptable. These may be linked to your current employment, so that it appears as though you were able to complete a specific project despite your limited working hours. In addition, when past writing tasks are listed in the writing skills section of your resume, they should be linked back to the information that you provide on your application. The writing skills section should highlight your abilities and specialties. You can achieve this through project work that has been completed that shows these skills. This will demonstrate your ability to write, to express yourself creatively and to understand how to express yourself clearly and succinctly. This is exactly the type of writing skills that the prospective employer seeks to see.The writing skills section of your resume should also show past projects and assignments where you have had to use creative writing and presentation. This is the type of writing that you have done in the past that is critical to the success of the work you are trying to do in the present. It will also show your awareness of how to correctly convey information in writing. It is also good to include references to any awards or honors that you may have received for this past work. The section of your resume that relates to special skills should be bolded to show that this information is specifically requested. In addition, this should be listed as 'WII' which will allow you to put the work ethic you demonstrate in writing into an example. It will also provide the reader with additional information regarding the work that you have already accomplished.Once the specific areas of special skills are identified, it is best to consider filling out the rest of the resume section with a listing of accomplishments. This is the section that has more information than the other sections and is where the emphasis should be placed. It is recommended that the writing skills section of your resume be left blank. The key to succeeding in this resume f ormatting is to read the rules and apply them as written. Don't try to read a resume that is not designed specifically for your needs. This format will only take you so far, but you can also include details about the skills and accomplishments you already have on your application.

Salary Negotiating Just Because
Salary Negotiating Just Because There seems to be a rule of thumb out there that if you land a job you should always try to negotiate for more money as a matter of course. If youve done your homework and realize that the salary offer is too low for your level of education and experience, you should at least try to negotiate a higher salary. However, negotiating your salary just because you think you should can hurt you in a number of ways. Contract positions are usually set at a certain rate and are only sometimes negotiable. If you try to negotiate a contract job offer, chances are that you delay many onboarding tasks such as drug screening, background and references checks and getting signed up for benefits. You may also find that the employer still expects you to start on the original date stated in the offer, leaving you scrambling to comply. If you can negotiate your salary higher for other types of positions, you may leave yourself vulnerable to layoff if your salary is higher than your peers. Your salary may be the first on the cutting block when it is time for your employer to make budgetary cuts. Negotiating a salary higher than what you originally stated you would be willing to take may make a potential employer think that you did not do your salary homework or are trying to get more money just because you think you can. This does not leave the employer with a good impression of you. Of course, you could prevent yourself from being boxed into a corner like this by not giving a specific dollar amount answer to the question, What are your salary expectations? If hard-pressed by an interviewer, give a wide salary range because this question is often used as criteria to weed out a large candidate pool.

6 Signs Its Time To Leave A Stable Sales Job - Work It Daily
6 Signs Itâs Time To Leave A Stable Sales Job - Work It Daily Just because you may not feel the pressure of layoffs doesnât mean you can rest on your laurels in your career. Maybe thatâs not the situation youâre in. Perhaps, you have a job that makes you unhappy. No matter your scenario, there are plenty of reasons to leave a stable job. Every job is temporary these days. Employers are still complaining about the lack of qualified applicants for their openings, which means there are ample opportunities for smart job seekers to improve their conditions, no matter how good or bad they may be. These signs (and similar points) have simple solutions: with a little homework, you could find the perfect company for your career development. Signs It's Time To Leave A Stable Sales Job Here are some signs that it's time to leave your stable job: 1. Thereâs no more room for employee growth, a raise or a promotion. Working smart (not just working hard) hasnât given you a better reputation at work. You want a career, not just a job. When you negotiate or meet with your boss, itâs more like speaking to a wall than to having a worthwhile discussion. Solution: Find a company that has no caps on earnings, has many employees with high titles and/or responsibilities, and supports a learning environment where experimentation and mistakes are part of the process. âThe ability to earn more money and responsibilities will always keep you busy,â Jordan Silver, a Senior Sales Representative at Fusion Worldwide says. âYou can turn a job into a career that way.â If those guidelines are in place, it will be a good spot for you to enhance your career without ever worrying about a dead end. 2. You want a new challenge. Youâre going through the motions, with every day feeling even more monotonous than the last. You feel your talents would work better in another role or another industry. You want to meet new people. Solution: Try a place where your interests align with the businessâ, but maybe in a way you wouldnât expect. (For example, if youâre a people person and you like technology, you could try sales in the tech sector. If youâre good with numbers, you could be an accountant for an art museum.) 3. You want more autonomy. You are micromanaged. You are taught how to do everything out of an outdated rule book. You feel you arenât given credit for your victories. Solution: Join a company that gives its employees freedom throughout the business cycle as long as you accomplish your goals. âWhen you have autonomy, your chances for growth are huge,â Luke LeSaffre, a Fusion Worldwide Senior Sales Representative says. âWithout someone breathing down your neck, you can focus on the things you do best to provide top-notch quality for your clients.â If drafting a progress report is necessary, you could explain how your tactics helped beat your projections more than another process may have. By showing what you have done, you can pinpoint exactly how you helped the business (and which areas you need to improve in the future). 4. You want more support. No one at your company knows how to help you. No one is willing to lend you a hand. Your co-workers donât understand how much work you have to do when you help them. Solution: Go to a business with people that are open to mentoring new employees or anyone willing to pick their brains. If there is cross-pollination between departments, thereâs a good chance some other people may be able to help if your boss or co-workers arenât around. 5. You donât enjoy your current job. You donât like your boss. You donât like your coworkers. You donât like office politics or unnecessary drama. Solution: Start fresh with a collection of individuals that are different from whom youâre used to working with. Research the culture of a few companies by learning about their employeesâ interests and work history. When we spoke to Fusion Worldwide employees about their companyâs culture, they used an abundance of traits any company would be proud to have, like ambition, cooperation and intelligence. With a careful selection on your part, your next employer could have the right mix of skills for you to thrive. Try to contact employees directly to ask them about the attitude in the office. If people are happy with their jobs, they probably arenât causing problems. 6. You donât like the direction the company is headed in. The leaders of the company are unwilling to accept responsibility for big-picture issues. Co-workers and bosses of your deflect blame and do the bare minimum to get by. Everyone talks a big game, but no one follows through with their ideas or works with others to help their ideas come to fruition. Solution: Connect with a business that shares the same ethics you do. Make sure they conduct themselves in the office and in the real world similar to how you do. If theyâre a transparent company, it will give you the chance to discover the essentials of business in your industry and help accomplish more things on your to-do list by understanding where you fit in.
